Face Painting - for Beginners!
Hey There!
So you want to delve into the wonderfully colourful world of face painting?
Well you have came to the right place!
Face Painting is a wonderful activity that brings joy to many of all ages! Why not give it a go!
To begin you will need a starter kit. This kit will have the basics for you to master your linework, sponging bases andget comfortable applying paint to skin.
A starter kit can be found here **
For bases a softer paint is ideal for beginners. This style of paint like Superstar or Mehron glides on easily and needs little water added to reach the desired consistancy.
Too much water and you will have spotchy patches, too little and the paint will look dry. Practice applying a few drops of water to your paint pan or spray mist your sponge before dabbing it into your paint. Practice applying a base to your arms or legs before moving onto faces.
For extra pizzazz add a few metalic or shimmery colours to your kit! A shimmer baby blue, white, yellow/orange, green and pink are a great hit and look lovely on eyelids, cheekbones and lips when the light hits them. Shimmers elevate your work and give it extra Wow factor!" Puff a little Aurora, Lemon yellow or coral glitter over for a truly magical look.
For Linework wax based paints give you an ink like consistancy for crisp smooth lines. The key to crisp lines is applying the correct amount of water and loading the brush is a smooth motion. Brands that are wax based are DIAMOND FX (DFX), FUSION, CAMELEON, TAG, FACE PAINTS AUSTRALIA(FPA), KRYVALINE and GTX is a softer paint that is suitable for linwork. Superstar also has it's own line of wonderful linework range in black and white.
Different brands and colours may require different amounts of water to activate your paints so it is important to get to know your kit before taking it out onto a job. Please do not confuse "wax based" with grease/creme paints you may find in retail stores around halloween time. These are oil based and no good. Some creme makeup is suitable for theatre work but must be set with powder. For face painting stick to waterbased brands.
